If you have ever watched football in the past 20 years or even watched ‘Good Morning America’, you already know exactly who Michael Strahan is. You probably know that he was a very good football player in the NFL who would retire and get a job doing commentary on the sport, which would then evolve into him securing a job as co-host of the show dubbed ‘GMA’. What you may not have known, is that Michael has also been divorced two times, has two children from each of those past two marriages, and has been in a very nasty battle with his second ex-wife for quite a while now.
With all of that being said, what you may not have heard about was Michael’s first ex-wife, who was named Wanda Hutchins. While you may not have heard about Wanda, there is actually an entire story that goes along with the short-lived marriage between her and Michael. Wanda Hutchins and Michael Strahan’s Divorce
At one point in time, Michael Strahan and Wanda Hutchins were considered to be the most adorable couple just about everywhere. In fact, the entire divorce would come as a huge shock to just about everybody in the entire world.
Unlike Michael’s second ex-wife, however, once Wanda and Michael had decided that they would go their separate ways, they would actually continue to be really good friends. However, the entire though of getting back together for another try would be the very last thing on either of their minds. With all of that being said though, even after all of this time, Wanda has remained very close to her ex-husband and has even come out publicly to defend him in several different situations. While still good friends though, Michael had moved on with his life and would eventually get married to a new woman that he would meet, eventually getting divorced from her several years later in a very nasty divorce battle.
What the big question on everybody’s mind really is though, is why Wanda and Michael would ever decide that they wanted to get divorced in the first place.
The Reason for Their Divorce
Wanda Hutchins was an interior designer who was married to Michael Strahan, a former professional football player. The two would end up getting married in 1992 and enjoy just four years of being happily married before deciding that they should get divorced.
It would be during this four-year period which they were together that the two would welcome two children into the world. Those two children would be named Tanita Strahan and Michael Strahan Jr. The two are currently 27 and 24 years old respectively. While all four of them remain very close to this day, Tanita is actually currently employed and is making a nice living for herself without help from either of her parents.
Wanda and Michael would eventually decide to get divorced in the year 1996 but would remain very close and good friends even after the separation was made final. On top of that, the two would also be very secretive about why they had decided to get divorced in the first place. It would not be until many years later that the truth about their divorce would come to be public knowledge. Wanda would eventually come forward and reveal what the real cause of their split was. She would go on to explain that when they were originally married, they were both very young and had no idea what they were doing with each other, and with their lives. They essentially decided that they were too young to make such a huge commitment to each other and had mutually decided that it would be best if they remained friends instead of lovers. So the main reason that the two would decide to get divorced was because they simply didn’t feel that there was a special connection, which was a mutual decision.
While Wanda’s family did not take the divorce as well as Wanda did, her mother would come out and accuse Michael of abandoning his children and skipping out on his duties as a father. However, those claims would very quickly be silenced by Wanda, as she would later be able to disprove them and clear Michael’s name of the false accusations.
Wanda Comes to Michael’s Defense Post Divorce
Not too long after Wanda and Michael were divorced, Michael would remarry to Jean Strahan in the year 1999. Wanda on the other hand, has remained unmarried to anybody else to this very day. While she has been involved with dating other men, she has not yet found anybody that has captured her heart and wanted to get married to. In fact, she would even have another son from one of her relationships but would not get married to this person. Her new son would end up being named Dorian.
Michael, however, would end up getting married to Jean and the two would have a set of twin daughters. They would be named Isabella and Sophia Strahan, being born in 2004. But very similar to the first marriage that Michael had, this new one too would come to an end somewhat quickly. In 2006, Jean would file for divorce from Michael, accusing him of physically beating her on a regular basis.
As if that weren’t enough, Jean would even accuse Michael of being gay. However, Wanda would not have any of that and would come to Michael’s defense. She continued to insist that Michael was not only a loyal husband, but the most loving father to his children as well. Wanda would then go on to say that Jean was simply a cruel person that was only looking out for herself and didn’t even like her children. As things turned out, it would appear that Wanda was correct in her assumptions of Jean, as Jean would continuously try to get more and more money out of Michael.
